Classless Society exhibition
Tang Teaching Museum at Skidmore College
September 7, 2013 - March 9, 2014
Classless Society investigates class today from various social and economic perspectives; among other topics, it considers class mobility, the different ways that class is signaled, the reality of the American Dream, and the myths surrounding it in the United States of the 21st century.
This special online feature complements the gallery exhibition and provides additional background and statistics. It also offers information about the artists and about how their work reflects the complex issues surrounding class status in our so-called classless society.
Classless Society is curated by Janet Casey, Professor of English, Skidmore College; Mehmet Odekon, Professor of Economics, Skidmore College; Rachel Seligman, Assistant Director for Curatorial Affairs, Tang Museum; and John Weber, Founding Director of the Institute of the Arts and Sciences, UC Santa Cruz.
This web feature was generously supported by the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation, the Getty Foundation, the Henry Luce Foundation, and the Friends of the Tang.
